Hayao Miyazaki's NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind has always been one of my favorite animated films growing up. Not only was Miyazaki a masterful visual storyteller, his works are often full of flights of the imaginative that are as endearing as they are beautiful. NausicaƤ was a great example of this, and over the weekend I thought I would paint something of a fan art based on it for fun. The idea has been in my mind for a while and it was taken from a pivotal scene towards the end of the film.

Was juggling perspective and values at the same time on this, hence the design of the plane unraveled. d'oh.

...and an old one with some slight lick of new paint.

This is for you, Pat.

This one has been on my backburner for a while now, and last night I finally found the motivation to finish it. For those of you who know me, I am a big fan of the BBC tv show Top Gear, of which I regard as the finest automotive program in the known universe. This is just a fun caricature that I thought would be a humble tribute to the show's hilarious trio of hosts - Clarkson, May, and Hammond. Due to the lack of appropriate photo reference, it was a challenge getting the likeness right, as I had to repaint Clarkson three times. All in all, it was a fun project and I am mostly happy with the result ;)

finally some update! ;P

A couple of sci-fi-vibe paintings that I want to add more detail and polish. I find that these days I can achieve what I have in mind more easily by dabbling between paintings, working on each for a short amount of time (half-an-hour at the most) rather than staring at the same one for long, continuous period. It's a useful trick to keep my mind moving at a swift pace, which really helps me in finding the solutions I am after.
